Richard and his family are from New York City, and visited Philadelphia for the day on Sunday. Richard’s favorite part of Philadelphia is the museums, his least favorite part is the cold. He and his family also prefer Pat’s over Geno’s.

Niraj has lived in Philadelphia for the past 5 years. His favorite part of the city is the restaurants and his least favorite part is the poverty. He does not like cheesesteaks.

Clint a visitor from San Francisco was here for just the weekend. His favorite part of Philadelphia is his friends and his least favorite part is the weather. He has never had a cheesesteak.

Daisy has been living in the city for one month. Her favorite part of the city is the history and architecture and her least favorite part of the city is the traffic. She prefers Pat’s over Geno’s.

Paige has been living in Philadelphia for a year and a half, she enjoys the Philadelphia sports teams but does not like SEPTA or PPA. She as well is a fan of Pat’s.

Ron is from New Orleans and is in Philadelphia for one day after leaving the city for grad school. He loves the history of Philadelphia but does not like the crime. He is a Pat’s man.

Jeremy is from Brooklyn and is in the city for the weekend, he loves the city history but does not care for the cold. He would rather get a cheesesteak at the Reading Terminal.

This is Jessie, she is also from Brooklyn and is in Philadelphia for the weekend. She loves the architecture but does not like the cold either. She has yet to try a cheesesteak.

Dan is also from Lansdale and is in for the afternoon and evening as well. He enjoys Philly’s bars and nightlife but does not like the graffiti. He is a Pat’s man.

Lee is from Lansdale and is in the city for the afternoon and evening. Her favorite things about Philadelphia are the bars, he hates PPA. She does not like cheesesteaks.

Charles has been living in the city for 45 years. His favorite thing about the city is the food as well as sports, his least favorite this is the crime. Charles is a Geno’s man.

Gaylord, a resident of 56 years loves the history of Philadelphia and feels that there is nothing he doesn’t like as the problems of Philadelphia are those commonly found in most other cities. He prefers Pat’s.

For this project I wanted to show how the area around Girard Ave. has changed dramatically over the past few decades, while neighborhoods a few blocks away have been able to retain their history and facades.

This is an old shot (above) looking at the Northwest Corner of Broad and Girard. Below is one I took.

Above is a shot looking East from Broad Street on Girard Ave. Below is the same shot reproduced.

This shot above is of 1209 N. 5th St. just north of Girard. Compared with the shot below you can see how the block has changed dramatically.

This is a shot from 1225 N. 5th St. again note the change from the old shot to my shot.

This is a shot looking west down Girard from Orianna St.

This picture is of The Mifflin School located on 3rd and Brown Streets.

As you can see this area of the city has changed a great deal in the past 60+ years, while still being selective enough for some structures to remain it, in some spots, retains its feel as the historic city of brotherly love.
